Jul. 21st, 2005 09:39 pmOK, this is a bit strange, but it's been percolating around in my brain lately.
Why did the terrorists choose London as their target in recent days? I mean, that has to be the worst possible choice anyone can make. The people of London have had a long history of having bombs & other terrorist type acts happening (from the Nazi bombing during WWII, which I'm sure some of the older citizens remember) to the IRA bombings only a decade or so ago.
I can just imagine all the Londoners (or whatever they call themselves) saying "Ha! That was a measly attempt. We've dealt with worse things before", and then going on with their lives. If anything, I would see it strengthen their resolve in keeping troops in Iraq.
I hope that Americans can learn a lot about how to react to a bad event, but I fear that history shows we never learn from events in another country (remember the sarin gas in the Tokyo subway a few years ago?)
